Newspapers in Ohio

The rise and progress of the public press in the two valleys, as herewith subjoined, is as nearly correct as the same can be given. The newspaper, having become the most potent intellectual engine in the world, to sway the public mind, the historian tails in his duty as compiler of events unless his report of the public press goes side by side with the statistics of population and physical and mental development.

Farmers' and Mechanics' Advocate, independent in politics, founded in 1870, edited by J. T. Shryock, and circulation about 1,400;
